Heel Life

From club sports and a capella groups to student government and volunteer programs, Carolina is home to more than 800 student organizations designed to enhance the academic experience.

Students who participate in programs, activities and organizations learn by doing and are challenged to think creatively, analytically and critically.

Empowering the community

Musical Empowerment, one of Carolina’s student organization, serves 130 children in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school district who would not otherwise have access to music lessons.

The program provides free instruments, music books, teacher workshops and trainings to participants, as well as any other resources that may improve the quality and value of lessons.

Something for everyone

  • 3-D printed hand.

    A helping hand

    The Helping Hand Project uses 3-D printing to make prosthetic devices for children and adolescents born without fingers.

  • Rowing to win

    The Crew Club is one of Carolina's nearly 50 club teams that train and compete in intercollegiate competitions on local, regional and national levels as part of the Sports Club Program.

    A legacy of song

    A subgroup of the Black Student Movement, the Harmonyx a cappella group sings R&B and upbeat, up-tempo songs.
